Archive for April, 2010

I purchased our first Bumkins Waterproof SuperBib shortly after S started eating solid foods. We received a number of the traditional cotton bibs before S arrived, and those worked fine, but I got tired of constantly adding them to the wash pile after every feeding. I found the these bibs online and was instantly intrigued by the lightweight, waterproof fabric and easy washability. They are also Lead Safe, PVC, BPA, Phthalate & Vinyl Free.

I love that these bibs cover her entire front and the pocket at the bottom catches lots of messes. These also fold up nice and small and are handy to throw in the diaper bag for eating out.

We have three of these bibs and rotate them throughout the week. (I rinse them with hot water after each feeding and hang to dry).  At the end of each week, I throw them in the wash with the rest of our laundry (these air dry really fast!) and they are good to go. They’ve held up very well for getting so much use!

In my opinion, these are some of the best bibs on the market. I only wish the velcro in the back was a little more toddler resistant. S has gotten into the habit of yanking these off when she’s finished eating, which usually results in some messes. Easily avoidable if we watch her like a hawk, but as some of you know, that’s not always possible with a toddler!

And now for the fun part…
I’m very excited to host my first ever blog giveaway! (I hope to continue doing giveaways with future monthly product raves, so stay tuned!)

While J’s dad was here for a weekend visit, S got a chance to practice her restaurant dining skills. We prepped her beforehand and stressed the following:

  • No silly faces
  • Chew with your mouth closed
  • Don’t dance in your chair
  • Keep your food in your mouth
  • No goofy noises

She followed our directions to a T:

NOT! We’ll keep working on it and hopefully she’ll get it down by the time she’s ready to go to prom. Wouldn’t want her to embarrass herself in front of her date.

1. How she’s so aware of sounds. When we are outside, she picks up on every little sound and stops whatever she is doing to point to the sound…a car going by (car! vroom, vroom!), airplane flying overhead (hair-pain!), a mourning dove cooing (dub!).

2. I think we are reaching the point where she stops believing everything I say. The other night she was in the bathtub and I mistakenly called her plastic shovel a spoon and she said, “No spoon, momma. SHOBEL!” Then she kept repeating “no spoon” over and over. Ha!

3. I’m hoping it’s just a toddler stage and that we won’t see her appear on the television show HOARDERS someday, but she is constantly carrying a million things in her arms. She’ll go around and collect ALL her stuffed animals AND her snack cup AND her sippy cup and walk around. If I ask her if I can help carry something for her, I get the standard defiant NO! response.

4. S must have been getting a little stircrazy last weekend being stuck inside with all the rain, but I love how she kept asking to “Go Shopping?” Yesterday in the car on the way home from daycare she said, “Go Shopping?” and I told her no, we were going home. A few seconds later I hear her little voice say, “no shopping” from the back seat.

5. S’s sleeping habits continue to improve. She goes down well at nighttime and is now continuosly sleeping until about 5:30 am. When she wakes up, she gathers all her cribmates in her arms and proclaims “ALL DONE SEEPING!”

S is 22 months and 2 days old!

S got to spend some time her Granddad this past weekend while he was here for a birthday visit. Although, you’d think it was S’s birthday with all the nice goodies that Granddad brought along…

There was this super cool blue ball with sparkly floaty things inside, along with some swimming dolphins. Look how happy S looks with her new ball (she now calls this her “cool ball”, since mommy exclaimed “how cool!” when she got it):

And then there was some cuddly story-time with a new Dr. Seuss book.

S says “dank-you, Gandad!” for all my fun new things. It was nice to see you and we all hope you have a very happy birthday today!

I know I’ve raved about Gina’s recipes before, but these two are probably the best ones I’ve made from her website so far. If you’ve never tried roasted broccoli before, you should. And if your toddler is like mine and turns up a nose at the sight of anything green, you should try this out on them. S LOVES her roasted broccoli. She even asked for MORE!

Here’s the Turkey Cutlet recipe:

Turkey Cutlets with Parmesan Bread-Crumb Crust
Gina’s Weight Watcher Recipes
Servings: 8 • Serving Size: 1 cutlet • Calories: 192 • Points: 4 pts each

  • 8 (4 oz) turkey breast cutlets
  • 4 egg whites, beat
  • 3/4 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
  • salt and fresh pepper
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • lemon wedges for serving

Heat oven to 250°.

Season cutlets with salt and pepper. Combine bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese in a medium bowl. In another bowl beat egg whites. Dip turkey cutlets in egg whites, then breadcrumb mixture, shaking off excess.

Heat a large nonstick frying pan on medium heat. Add half of the butter and olive oil. When butter melts, add 4 cutlets and cook a few minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through. Set aside on a baking sheet and keep warm in oven. Add remaining butter and oil to frying pan. Cook remaining cutlets. Serve with lemon wedges.

Here’s the Roasted Broccoli recipe:

Roasted Broccoli with Smashed Garlic
Gina’s Weight Watcher Recipes
Servings: 4 • Serving Size: 1/4th of broccoli • Points: 2 pts
Calories: 126 • Fat: 7.5g • Protein: 4.3 g • Carb: 13.7 g • Fiber: 5.7 g

  • 1 1/2 lbs broccoli florets, cut long with part of stem
  • 6 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • kosher salt and fresh pepper

Preheat oven to 450°. In a baking dish combine broccoli, olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Roast broccoli about 20 minutes, until broccoli is browned and tender.

And here’s what your toddler might do after you make this. I’m curious if your kiddo loves this as much as mine does.

Wags:

I got to the store pretty early today since I wanted to grab the deals before everyone else did. I got the following for only $13.00 out of pocket (and two Starbucks ice cream pints and some eggs) and I still have a $5.00 RR for next week. Highlights: FREE packaging tape!! Saved $5.50 in paper coupons (not counting Wags coupons or RR’s)

Copp’s

Easy shopping trip today. I planned my meals this week based on the items I have on hand from all the good sales as of late, so I didn’t need to buy much. I saved $5.00 in coupons.

Tuesday

Ran to Wags to grab the Schick Quattro disposable razor deal. Free razors and they paid me $2.00 for my trouble! 🙂 Saved $4.00 and got $4.00 in RRs

Friday

Target

I snagged this bag for $1.24. It was on clearance $6.24 and I had the $5.00 off Merona handbag coupon (no longer available). Yay for a cheap bag!

I was able to get 138 diapers for $33.44, which works out to about $0.24 per diaper (if my math is right). I had a $2.00 Target Coupon for Pampers Crusiers that I was able to stack with another manufacturer $2.00 coupon and I had a ton of other $1.50 and $1.00 off manuf. coupons to use up on this transaction…plus I got $10 in Target Gift Cards! I saved $17.00 in coupons.

Saturday

Saved $3.60 in gas using Roundy’s Fuel Perks. I also filled another card for free Brewers tickets (from BP gas stations)…now we have two! Can’t wait to send those in so J and I can get to a game this summer!

Got free coffee at Starbucks using an empty bag (with coupon on side).

Saved $12.50 in coupons at Copp’s. Got 2 free Brie cheese logs (store offering B1G1 Free and I had two coupons for $3.00 off each one), and Desitin baby creme for $1.50 each (B1G1 sale and I had a $1.00 coupon). Also got a coupon for a free gallon of milk by purchasing 8 Keebler/Kellogg’s products (and saved an instant $10 at the register). Helped me stock up on some 100 calorie packs of cookies that I usually throw in our lunches.

Total Weekly Savings: $47.60
